What is Affidavit of Financial Support for Visit / Medical Visa?

Affidavit of Financial Support (AOS) is not a financial document, but more so a support document. It is a validation of the financial support being provided to a Visit or Medical Visa Applicant and required for visit or medical visa. Generally, it is asked by foreign Embassies / High Commissions such as Thailand Embassy, Singapore Embassy, Malaysian High Commission, Indian High Commission, U.S. Embassy, British High Commission, Canadian High Commission, Australian High Commission, Sweden Embassy, German Embassy and Many other Embassies or High Commission in Bangladesh or also required by Immigration Department abroad. An AOS is a notarized and executed document signed by the deponent known as principal visit visa applicant or medical visa applicant or financial sponsor of the medical / visit visa applicant and the notary public. It is prepared in due form of law such on non-judicial stamp papers. It includes business, employment, property / assets, financial / bank balance, economic, social, family ties in Bangladesh. The signed document binds the person thereof to accept all financial responsibility for the cost of a visit or medical visa. An AOS is processed with Proof of Income / Bank Balance Certificate as well as a Relationship (if any) issued and verified by the notary public.

 

Things to keep in mind:

• Affidavit of Financial Support should be duly notarized and be produced in due form of law.
• In case of a relative sponsoring your visit or medical visa, the document should clearly specify their relationship with visit or medical visa applicant and reason for sponsoring your visit or medical tour and  clarify related expenses that either you visa applicant or your financial sponsor is capable of managing all necessary expenses barring the support offered.
• Proof of Bonafide Visit.

 

For what purposes Affidavit of Financial Support is generally used?

An affidavit of Financial Support is submitted to the concerned Foreign Clinic / Hospital in support of Medical Visa and also for foreign embassies or high commission for visit or medical visa to assure the visa officer that you visa applicant or your financial sponsor has sufficient funds in order to support the while you will be in visit or medical visa.

You can submit an Affidavit of Financial Support to any of the visa offices/consulates/embassies/ high commissions, for example, Thailand Embassy,  Singapore Embassy, Malaysian High Commission, U.S. Embassy, British High Commission, Canadian High Commission, Australian High Commissions, Dhaka, Bangladesh etc. as long as you or your sponsor is financially sound and solvent

 

What should you understand about an Affidavit of Financial Support as a Visit or Medical Visa Applicant?

An Affidavit of Financial Support is a contract signed and declared by an individual to guarantee the minimum amount of financial support required by the principal visa applicant or his / her financial sponsor in support of strong ties / standing in Bangladesh and for the length of visit.

An Affidavit of Financial Support / Sponsorship is required to be documented with the supporting financial evidence such as personal or commercial property, bank savings, income sources, etc.

An individual who guarantees financial support is termed as a principal visa applicant or financial sponsor. Sponsor is usually parent or family member or close relative or other person who will provide financial support to the visa applicant. They may provide you with complete or partial sponsorship, but your total financial support must be well above the estimated expenses.

Please note that you visa applicant or your financial sponsor has the strongest hold on declaring the Affidavit of Financial Support if supported with enough source of funds. You visa applicant should submit the evidence of funds that are in your own name through Affidavit of Financial Support declared either by you or by your Financial Sponsor.

 

What should an Affidavit of Financial Support/ Sponsorship include?

• Name and address of a deponent / visa applicant or financial sponsor
• Relationship between a deponent and the visa applicant, if affidavit is provided by financial sponsor
• Declaration of amount, duration and purpose of sponsorship
• Signed by a deponent / sponsor
• Property, Bank Balance and other necessary information etc.

 

Please be advised to enclose financial documentary evidence such as property documents, bank savings, income sources, etc. notarized by a notary public.

 

What is Proof of Funds (POF) or Financial Capacity?

One of the basics of Visit or Medical Visa Application is the requirement of Proof of Funds or Financial Capacity. For almost all countries (barring a few), visit or medical visa applicant is required to provide evidentiary proof that he / she / they are  able to not only pay to support the entire cost related to their visit for the duration of their stay in the country. Irrespective who asks for POF, the fact remains that Proof of Funds refers to the proof positive that the visit or medical visa applicant would be able to bear the cost of visit or treatment. An important component of the visit or medical visa is the financial support and documents.

An Affidavit of Financial Support is a validation of financial support being provided by the visa applicant himself / herself or financial sponsor of the visa applicant.

An Affidavit of Support or Sponsorship is a notarized document on a Non-Judicial Stamp Paper / in due form of law which clearly mentions that either you visa applicant yourself or your financial sponsor would be sponsoring for your trip, related cost and expenses. The signed document directly binds the person to accept all financial responsibility for the cost of visit or treatment. Often, the Affidavit of Support is supplemented with Proof of Income and/or Bank documents.

 

Proof of a Bonafide Visitor

No matter which country you are applying to, if you are applying for any category of Visit or Medical Visa, you must be able to prove that you are a bonafide visitor. This is often done by producing supporting credible documentary evidences along with Affidavit of Financial Support executed either by you visa applicant or by your Financial Sponsor and witness as well as notarized by the Notary Public.
